Corsica's best walks - North corsica

This first day will take you to discover Cap Corse, the Island within the island. Stop at the tiny ports enroute along the East coast before crossing the Cap and reaching the stunning West Coast. Here, you will follow the coast and its cliffs, discovering magnificent hidden coves. Late afternoon reach Nonza with its stunning perched Paoline tower above the black pebble beach, then onto Patrimonio, the wine capital of Corsica, before reaching Saint-Florent and its white sand beaches.

Take advantage of this day to discover the coves with crystal-clear waters that run along the coastal path in the Agriates. From Saint Florent you will follow the sea between small rocky and white sand beaches. Today you have two choices, you can do an easy walk to Punta Vecchiaia where granite and limestone cliffs meet, or take a stunning coastal walk alongside turquoise waters into the Agriates towards the Mortello tower that was the blueprint for many others during the Napoleonic wars.

After crossing the Désert des Agriates you will almost immediately take small mountain roads crossing olive groves and lined with cacti and prickly pears through the Garden of Corsica, La Balagne. Discover the area village to perched village, following the craft trail. You will later reach Calvi, the picture perfect Mediterranean, its marina and its imposing citadel crowning the bay, backed by high mountains. Walk at the end of the day possible to Notre Dame de la Serra for a great sunset.

You have a superb walk coastal walk today which takes you along the coast to the Revellata lighthouse on a wild peninsular to the south of the town, where you can enjoy the crystal turquoise waters and stunning coastal landscapes. In the afternoon why not just wander the streets of Calvi, or have a dip at the beach, before enjoying a meal in one of the wonderful restaurants on the harbour.

Take perhaps the best coast road in Corsica, the landscape it offers is simply sublime. Arrive into Porto, a lovely and vibrant harbour town where you will embark on a cruise to discover the calanches de Piana and Capo Rosso from the sea. This afternoon climb into the Spelunca gorge via Evisa and then over the highest road col on the island before dropping down into the Niolu and then through the magnificent Scala di Santa Regina before arriving at Corte, the historic capital of Corsica.

Today you will discover a delightful trail into the Tavignano gorge from the Citadelle, walking this age old path, used by shepherds, your eyes will be amazed by this exciting rocky landscape that opens before you. Corsica is the mountains and this hike is a perfect taste of it. You will arrive at a bridge over the river where you can bathe in the rock pools with crystal clear waters and enjoy a picnic before returning to brooding Corte.
